Samsung Galaxy A

Samsung Galaxy A5

The Samsung Galaxy A5 is available to buy from Amazon for £270.99. The phone has a vivid display that looks great when watching videos or flicking through photos. The build quality is also high – the phone neither looks nor feels low-end, despite being at the cheaper end of Samsung bestsellers.

Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017)

The release of more expensive Samsung flagships overshadowed the release of the Galaxy J5, but the J5 is a superb budget smartphone. Despite the low price, you get plenty of storage space, a decent camera and an excellent display.

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017)

The Galaxy J3 is a compact phone that comes in an attractive metal casing. In terms of functionality, the handset is basic and the camera quality is poor. But, if you don’t mind going without Samsung’s latest features, this phone is an affordable option.

Samsung Galaxy S7

If you want an outstanding phone but hope to steer clear of the £500 mark, the Galaxy S7 is a wonderful choice. The phone’s battery lasts an age, it’s as powerful as pricier alternatives and the camera takes clear ,blur-free shots. Compared to the more expensive S8, the S7 holds its own even though it lacks an edge-to-edge infinity display.

Samsung S8Samsung Galaxy S8

The S8 excels in three important areas: power, design and camera capabilities. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ were two of the most popular phones in 2017 and for good reason; they’re two of the best all-around smartphones in the UK.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8

You won’t find the Galaxy Note 8 cheap, but it’s not bad value for money either. For around £800, you can get yourself a super-fast phone with a cool display and tonnes of extra features. If you’re thinking about buying a “phablet”, I suggest you take a close look at the Galaxy Note 8.

How will Samsung’s 2018 releases compare to older Samsung phones?

2018 will see the release of the Samsung Galaxy S9, which is predicted to hit shops in March. The S9 will likely be the same size as the S8 and use the same Super AMOLED display. However, reports suggest we could see the following upgrades in the new phone:

An improved camera: Rumour has it the S9 will have a variable camera lens aperture that expands and contracts to let in light. A variable aperture would let the camera optimise the lighting in photos, creating clear photos in all environments.

A quicker iris scanner: The iris scanner on the S8 struggles to recognise you if the lighting is poor or you’re wearing glasses. But word is the new S9 will have a faster, more reliable scanner.

Better speakers: Samsung already partners with AKG to provide earphones with the Galaxy S8. But there’s speculation that AKG could be producing stereo speakers to go inside the S9, which would see the partnership move a step further. Stereo speakers will please anyone who wants to listen to music aloud without investing in a separate speaker.

As well as the S9, we’re likely to see a Galaxy Note 9 come out later in the year. The Galaxy Note 9 is predicted to have an on-screen fingerprint scanner, doing away with the need to have a separate scanner on the back. Hopefully, Samsung will also improve on the Note 8’s battery life, which is frustratingly low after a full day of charge.

How Samsung phones compare to iPhones

Because iPhones are known to be reliable, efficient and user-friendly, sales of the Apple handset have dominated the UK phone market. But recently, Samsung rather than Apple has led the way in smartphone innovation. Thanks to their edge-to-edge display, a multitude of features and customisability, Samsung phones are starting to outperform iPhones in almost every way.

Here’s a run-through of how Samsung phones compare to iPhones, in case you’re torn between the two.

Samsung Phone dealsTop reasons to choose a Samsung over an iPhone

Expandable storage: Most Samsung phones have SSD card slots. So, when the photo and video files on your phone grow too large for your phone to handle, there’s a convenient way to store them elsewhere.

Brighter displays: The Super AMOLED display panels manufactured by Samsung are market leading. If you like to watch videos or play games on your phone, these displays show you a depth of colour that iPhones struggle to reach.

Android operating system: People like Android because of its flexibility. You have more freedom to customise your phone, more hardware options and more handsets to choose from. Androids are often cheaper than iPhones too.

Top reasons to choose an iPhone over a Samsung

You own all things Apple: If you own an Apple Watch, HomePod and TV, you’ll want all your devices to work together. Manually syncing information to your Apple devices from a Samsung can be tricky, not to mention time-consuming.

Excellent cameras: Compared to Samsung phones for the same price, iPhones have better cameras. On Samsung phones, photo enthusiasts often have to spend time editing images to produce their desired end result. On iPhones, it’s easier to take professional-looking shots without editing retrospectively.

iOS operating system: While some people love Android for its flexibility, others like iOS because it’s straightforward and easy to use. Siri is also much smarter than Samsung’s AI assistant, Bixby.
